This tour focuses on the major political and cultural shifts in 20th and 21st century Vietnam, as seen through the eyes of prominent Vietnamese artists. Visiting leading contemporary art galleries and the grand halls of the Fine Arts Museum, the narrative takes participants from colonialism to independence, through communism to globalisation. The tour explores the the personal experiences of artists who studied, fought, witnessed and documented major changes in twentieth century Vietnam. Whilst wonderful for art lovers it also appeals for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of modern Vietnam’s history.
The tour is led by art historian and long-time ex-patriated Saigon resident, Sophie Hughes. She makes the journey through time inspiring, educational and, hopefully, fun.
The tour starts at 9am, as you are picked up from your hotel and first head to Sophie’s favourite cafe to enjoy traditional Vietnamese sweet coffee. She will then discuss the tour in overview – talking you through what you are going to see at several different locations through-out the city. You will be back at the hotel for 1pm.
This tour is not available on either Sundays or Mondays, because the museums and galleries are closed.
