A boutique, serene 3 star lodge just 2 hours from the city of Saigon, the Island Lodge deserves at least a 4 star rating due to the exceptional service, super comfy rooms and the range of facilities and tours available. The lodge is nestled in thick tropical gardens overlooking the river and feels incredibly remote – yet you are just a few minutes from the floating markets, quaint Mekong villages and fruit farms. Explore the backwaters by boat, cycle through the village lanes or flop by the beautiful pool. There is something for everyone at The Island Lodge and it is certainly our favourite hidden gem in the Mekong.
There are just 12 rooms at this cosy home-style lodge and each one is well equipped with en-suite bathrooms and local artwork by the talented young painter Tran Ngoc Tung. Mosquito nets are available if needed and air-conditioning is available in all rooms. The humidity and heat tends to be high year round but October to April tends to be driest. The private terrace is a great spot to settle down and take in the sounds and sights of the river. Whilst the opposite river bank is a little built up, a 5 minute cycle takes you to some quaint local markets and sleepy riverside towns. The restaurant here serves up delicious local treats, as well as French and Vietnamese dishes.
We recommend staying here for 2 nights at the least, but a one night stop is certainly possible, especially given the close distance to the city and airport.
